Hey everyone,

We’re playing at Mango’s Vegetarian Cafe on Saturday, July 3, just one day before the 234th anniversary of the birth of Our Great Nation, and just four days before the 30th anniversary of the birth of Our Great Drummer, Yours Truly.

For this anticipatory occasion, we’ll be sharing the stage with Young Girls and the Gary.

Young Girls are the latest project from one Pete Tijerina, a talented pop songwriter previously of the Program and (still?) the Springfield Riots. We haven’t shared a bill with Pete in a while, and we’re pretty excited about it, especially since we royally messed up the last gig we were supposed to play with the Program. Sorry Pete! Young Girls haven’t played many shows yet, and they’re supposed to be a lot of fun, so come out and catch ‘em while they’re hot!

The Gary are friends, kindred spirits and fellow devotees of Nomeansno and Silkworm from Austin. We jammed with them early last year, an event that I’m sure is remembered fondly by the four people who stayed for the whole show. The Gary released a critically acclaimed full-length record earlier this year, and are fresh off a tour to Chicago, during which they recorded at famed punk studio Electrical Audio, with none other than the Albini himself at the board. JEALOUS!

Mango’s is on Westheimer next to the Avant Garden/Helios/Heliotrope/Mausoleum, in the building that used to be the Oven. It’s a newish venue operated by Omar Afra of Free Press Houston, also known as the hardest-working man in show business now that James Brown is dead. Among Houston clubs, Mango’s has one of the strongest commitments to independent music. While we’ve all played at the Oven in other bands, Mango’s is new for us- I haven’t even been there yet- so we’re very excited about it.

Hope to see you there!

Stay cool,
Danny

Co-Pilot are a post-rock band that, as we now do, splits membership between Houston and Austin. They've been around for at least four years, but they don't play all that [...]
