Jonx Doubleheader: Friday 11/9 at Valhalla, Saturday 11/10 at the Proletariat

It’s been a long day, so I’ll get right to the point: the Jonx are playing two shows this weekend. In a Jonx first, these two shows will feature completely exclusive setlists, i.e. if you go to both you won’t hear the same song twice. BONUS: We are debuting some new material, including songs entitled “The Past is All You Get,” “Diabetic Veteran” (anyone?) and possibly “I’m Getting Really Good At Tetris.”

First, on FRIDAY, November 9, we’ll be at Valhalla on the campus of Rice University, for a KTRU-sponsored free happy hour show. We go on around 5:30 PM, followed by perennial Houston Press honorees and erstwhile Jonx sparring partners Studemont Project.

Reasons you should go to this show:
1. FREE
2. Valhalla has the cheapest beer in town (85 cents a cup)
3. Awesome bands
4. KTRU
5. Beautiful Rice environs
6. Beautiful Rice people
7. FREE
8. BEER
9. FREE BEER HA HA YEAH RIGHT

Obstacles that you will have to overcome:
1. Parking at Rice is a pain in the ass
2. Their laughably mysterious “map” doesn’t list the name of any of the buildings (to find Valhalla, draw a line straight down from entrance 22 until you hit Laboratory Road)
3. It furthermore does not tell you that you can park for free on Ashby and Kent streets, just off Rice Boulevard, if you watch the signs

I’ve been a KTRU DJ for almost seven pathetic years, and Stu had a shift when he was a student back in the Bronze Age, so we’re very excited about this one. Celebrate the end of a rough week by getting your face rocked off!

Then, on CATUR SATURDAY, November 10, we’re very honored to be playing the Linus Pauling Quartet record (as in seriously lavish vinyl) release party at the PROLETARIAT, located at 903 Richmond Avenue now for a limited time only!

Laurie-Anderson-meets-Cat-Power songstress Jenny Westbury opens the show around 9 or so, then JONX, then the very funny Joe Mathlete backed by the charming and exuberant Dimes (who might have to change their name soon), then the mighty stoners themselves, the LP4. You can read the Houston Press review of their excellent new album here. The last time we played with the LP4 was one of our best shows ever, so this is a can’t-miss for Jonx fans! Yeah right. It is for that one guy who comes to see us every time we play and whose name shall no longer be mentioned here, lest it embarrass him. Thanks man.

Rock on Atlanta,
Danny
